Default Helmets and wind noise

Liked my Giro Eclipse but it generated significant wind noise. A
recent crash has made a new helmet a necessity.

Anyone think their helmet is quiet?

TIA

1) Glad you're (presumably) ok.

2) I think my Bell Ghisallo is quiet, comfy, and well ventilated.
Seems the folks at CyclingNews quite agree:

The article also implies a connection between Bell and Giro, and
that--if one tends to fit you--the other will, too.

Good luck!

Broken collarbone, right side all bruised up, (esp. the hip) and head
all bruised up (I probably wouldn't be here if the helmet hadn't been
there).

But alive and kicking.

Thanks for the helmet suggestion.

Giro Mira (probably beneath your price range, but I only wear one about
4x a year) does the same thing. I don't know if noise is a priority for
the designers.

I think the straps generate a lot of noise, perhaps most of it. What can
they do, except make a silly looking fairing at the straps, covering our
ears? I think I saw that in a catalog a few years ago.

I have a pair of cold weather ear covers that fit on the helmet straps.
Besides keeping my ears warm in winter they cut out virtually all wind
noise. Brand name is 'Hot Ears'. They're so effective at noise reduction
that I wondered about making myself a similar pair in lightweight material
for summer use. Guess I'll have to wait for summer and try it (presently
midwinter here).

Not that I recommend them, but you might take a look at some of these.

Prior to my crash a couple of months ago, (in which I sustained very
similar injuries, minus the hip damage) I destroyed my second Briko
Twinner, and wish I could find another one around here. It looked like
the love-child of a normal road helmet and one of those
super-aerodynamic TT helmets: three large holes in the front, a smooth
top, and a number of vents in the back, with none of the top and side
openings to catch the wind.

The ventilation wasn't quite as good as a normal road helmet, (i.e., it
got a little bit warm during slow rides on hot days, but those aren't
much fun anyway) but the lack of wind noise, as well as protection from
the all-too-frequent Pacific NW rains up here in Portland, Oregon, made
it a pretty great daily-use helmet.

My Giro Zen isn't.
