I don't know much about HD Camcorders, but I do know that the HV20 has
some amazing reviews. But, I never have actually heard about that JVC
model.

Personally, I don't really like Mini-DV, but if it comes to HD and
Mini-DV, the quality might be better.

If it were me personally, I'd go Canon.

Have fun with an HD Camcorder. Your vids will be outstanding.

CANON.

In that price range, you are not gonna get a great tapless camera, good
but not the highest quality. If your gonna be dropping some loot for
High Def, you are gonna get a better picture with less limits if you go
mini DV. Mini DV has not been replaced yet, and it certainly has not
been replaced on the consumer level, its just easy to market.

Okay.

What do I need to transfer the files on my comp. with mini dv tapes?

I would also need HDV tapes I guess, instead of regular mini-dv?

Something like this, I believe.

You can use regular mini DV tapes, some are rated better for HD than
others. Once you pick a brand and model tape you should stick with it. I
would find something that has a good review for HD, and is also readily
available for you to pick up.

you need a firewire card and cable. You NEED that stuff, it wont work
without it. I'd say get a mix of both tapes if you plan on buying a lot.
I used up my HDV tapes (i havent made the video i was planning yet), and
have begun using some normal mini-dv tapes. Recording onto the normal
tapes, you will be getting the highest quality possible on the tape
really lol.

Thanks for all answers guys. But I won't go with the mini-dv...since it
will be over my budget.

dont be surprised if the memory stick/hard drive wont transfer onto
your computer. With my past experience, its normally in an odd format
that works with nothing lol.

We'll see.

EDIT: For transferring from HD HDD to my comp, I just need the USB
cable right?

Also, I can capture AVCHD vids into my video editing program so, no
worries for me there.
