Is it Tyler's career, or euro pro cycling that is dead?

If Tyler had 'fessed up at the start, he'd be in the clear.
Irony totally rocks!

But why would Euro pro cycling take a hit? The players are
interchangeable. Last year the Tour lost LANCE to retirement
and Basso and Ullrich to Op Puerto and the race never even
missed them. We had the best race with more drama and
uncertainty than we've had in years.

That's what the doping hand wringers are missing. If Barry
Bonds died tomorrow his sport would still go on without
him, as doped up as ever. It is the spectacle that draws
the fans, and the fantasy of honest competition is too
resilient.

Well said Bob! The Grand Tours are much larger than the individual
riders.

In what way? No protour team for four years. That appears to be the rule? Was
there a Tyler exemption for "fessing up?" Didn't know such a thing exists.

And now it's next season and we still don't know who will be declared the
winner. Do you really think that's a favorable outcome. That any sport could
long survive having the results of it's three largest annual event overturned
one after another.

If Barry Bonds died tomorrow the sport would be healthier. If they tore open the
record book and started deciding which of his HRs didn't happen then we'd have a
situation like cycling.

That wasn't yet the rule in September 2004.

If Tyler had 'fessed up he wouldn't be looking at a lifetime ban.
He'd be starting the Giro. His career would be moving forward
rather than circling the toilet.

I guess once he got cut from ProTour teams he should have just
slit his wrists and called it a day.

You hand wringers just don't get it. That stuff only matters if
it causes enough people to stop showing up on mountain passes
or to stop parking their butts in front of the TV to watch the
spectacle.

We have had NUMEROUS doping scandals. The sport has grown in
spite of it. We have ALREADY HAD the result of a Grand Tour
overturned because of a doping test result. It didn't matter.

That's what the doping hand wringers are missing. If Barry
Bonds died tomorrow his sport would still go on without
him, as doped up as ever. It is the spectacle that draws

Yeah, the Vuelta totally hit the tank after Heras got popped
and the result was changed. That's some pretty incontestable
evidence that people give a **** about stuff like that.

Just watch. You'll turn on your TV in July and you'll see the
Galibier, or the Aubisque and it'll be like a ghost town.
Totally empty. Or maybe you won't, because surely the media
will just abandon the Tour out of lack of interest. Maybe the
coverage will just evaporate into the ether because no one
cares about the Tour anymore.

When Bonds breaks the home run record, baseball should just
give it up. The stands will surely be empty in reaction to
such a charade. And if that doesn't do it, striking the
record from the books certainly will.

Geez, stop cherry-assing. What is the impact on the rbr July posting
numbers? Flat-line?

I second that!

When someone is lining up their picks for the 2063 Giro (on who knows
what kind of "device"...who knows, maybe the Giro will start in
Disneyland that year) do you think he/she will give a rats ass who's
dog is named Birillo, or what Operation what-have-you meant???? Only
a very small group endure over the years, and Hamilton, Basso and
Urlich are definately not on the short list. You'd have a better
chance of being remembered if you rode the Zonocolan naked versus
testing positive for the 2007 Giro or TdF.

Hey, the same old French guy who's been sitting outside his farmhouse
to watch the tour go by will do the same thing until his wife provides
a better option inside ;-) Possible, but not likely in the July
heat. Now if they moved the Tour up on the calendar, then we could
have some problems.
