So your journey, in an area with terrible weather conditions, was
necessary?

Not at all; I fancied a ride. I wouldn't have taken the car out, but
bikes are somewhat different; flexible enough to be pushed or lifted
round/though obstacles. Highly er, what's the word.... VIABLE!

Cyclists just take the warning to "stay off the roads unless your journey is
essential" as a challenge.

Of course we take it as a challenge; we're like that. Last year in
the snow my bike coped with several miles of snow, and I was in a
distinct minority in actually getting into the office. Could have
worked from home, but thought I'd set an example; can't expect others
to go in if I don't make the effort myself.

The Range Rover driver clearly had enough sense to know there was another
route,

all we know is that he didn't take *that* route at *that* time ... we
do not know if his journey continued to his previously-intended destination

The cyclist was also sensible, he got off his bike and pushed it on a
diversion along a narrow path, around the deepest water,

and thus continued on his chosen route to his objective?
