Sort of...no 9s onto the 7800 wheels or hubs, wonder how long 7700 hubs will be
around.

Wonder if you can swap a 9s ti freehub onto '10s' hub bodies...

rear der is compatible withe 10s levers, probably front as well..but iffa ya
want to upgrade to 10s...need levers, cogset and chain...instead of shift disc
cogset and chain...

Wonder why this has to be the case. I thought you can always put a
cassette with fewer cogs on a longer hub body as long as you insert
proper spacer ring(s). Is this because the spline pattern has also changed?

The new hubs use an aluminium freehub body to save weight. Because
aluminium is weaker than the titanium or steel normally used, the spline
engagement has to be deeper to spread the load over a greater area. The new
freehub splines are taller, but have the same base diameter, so a 10spd
cassette will work with a 9spd hub, but not vice versa.

I doubt it - the new hubs use fat aluminium axles that would be unable to
pass through the hollow 10mm allen bolt attachment of a 9s freehub.
