Online Uni Sales

Any thoughts on the reliability of some of the folks selling unis
online? I made a purchase from Tom Miller many years ago, and I couldn't
be happier. Tom delivered everything he said he would and more. I have
recently been attempting to resolve a damaged (not from shipping)
purchase from another online supplier (to reamain unnamed, for now),
and, thus far, I am not impressed.

The packing and shipping part of an online retailer is no different from
what's used by a "computer-free" retailer. I'm sorry you're having
problems, and hope they will be worked out with minimal hassle.

Meanwhile, if Tom Miller has what you need, definitely order from him as
well. He needs the support!

Sorry to hear you having problems Karl.

I have purchase Unicycyles, online, from unicycle dot com and from
Bikerman59, selling though e-bay. I had great results from both.

BTW, what kind of damage?

I thought I had received a damaged hub/crank until I applied a generous
helping of anit-seize. Solved the whole problem in about 10 minutes!

It appears the damage (a nice frame gouge) happened during the unpack
and repack (which I didn't realize would happen, nor do I find
necessary, especially with my background as a professional bicycle
mechanic), and some of the supplied packing material was left loose in
the box (which raises my ire as a 5-year veteran of FedEx Express). I've
been given strong indication that my calling the company it’s foible is
more of an issue than my business. It's really just cosmetic, but it
should be rectified, and I really just wanted to ride this weekendJ

Someone once said on this forum that all frames should come pregouged.
That way you wouldn't sweat making the first scratch yourself and could
go out and enjoy your Uni. That being said, I nearly weaped with my
first scratch. I don't try to scratch it up on purpose now, but I don't
sweat it either.

That was me.
For a trials uni or a muni you should expect it to get scratched up. If
you're worrying about scratches on a trials uni or a muni then you've
got some issues to deal with before you start playing with those toys.

However, for a fancy custom freestyle unicycle for performance use or a
flashy road uni with a custom paint job I'd be more picky about
scratches and such caused by shipping. But eventually any unicycle is
going to get scratched no matter how careful you are. For a painted uni
a little automotive touchup paint may fix it up. For a chrome uni a
little polish may fix it up.

cash I am spending for a "new" uni, and it's the principle. It's a
Torker TX, and I'll undoubtedly beat the crap out of it, but I want to
be the one to do it.
