It might just be that the cyclist was stopped to the left of the ASL and has pulled away quicker than the car - if you were to see another frame 1 second later the cycle may actually be even further in front. Rule 178, (ASLs) Can anyone else see what is wrong with the picture associated with this rule. (The one with the tick). Martin. There's nothing wrong with either picture, as far as I can tell. They illustrate the point about advanced stop lines. The left picture (one with the cross), it's okay for a car to be in this position, if having past the first white line on a green light the light then having changed through amber to red (amber means stop). But ordinarily the car must stop at the first white line as demonstrated in the right picture. So do tell Martin, What is wrong? Polly |

It's a rule for motorists, and I can't see anything wrong with what the motorist's doing. I can. There is more than one thing wrong. But yes. Definitely. I'd like to know what you think is wrong, and also pose another question: To be legally enforceable is an approach lane required, and is the cycle logo also a requirement? I assume that some sort of 'approach lane' however small is required to enable a cyclist to cross the first STOP line? Jim Chisholm |

Do you mean they all turned in to ****wits after I appeared here? I don't believe you - Chapman, Ian Smith, Bilbo Braggins, Doctor Dann and yourself have all been ****wits for some time. You could not all have perfected your high standards in a short period of time. -- The Highway Code endorses filtering - Ian Smith (He just can't find where it does so.) |
