Default Polar Heart Rate Monitor

I bought a S-150 Polar Heart Rate Monitor. The monitor is supposed to
measure the speed of the bicycle and the distance traveled. It works by
fastening the wrist-watch part to a plate, such that the wrist watch
makes a secure contact with the plate. The problem is that the wrist
watch can't be fastened sufficiently tightly to the plate to ensure a
secure contact. Thus, I sometimes get a reading, and sometimes don't.
Does anyone know a fix for this problem?

Did you check the distance of the speed sensor from the spoke magnet?
Are bike functions turned on?

I use dielec grease, and it works most of the time. After I hit a big
bump, I look down to see I'm still reading speed, and if I'm not, I
just press it and wiggle it until it starts again.
