What halfway appealed to me was the $500 two night stay at the Red
Rock Casino:
http://www.redrocklasvegas.com/hotel...de_package.php

You get to ride the bike (with the ridiculous wheels) for two days,
$35 in food each day. $500 seemed like a lot at first but then I
considered that I budget $300 for out of town brevets or double
centuries ($120-180 for two nights at a hotel with tax, $50-90 for a
nice dinner and breakfast for my wife and me, plus $40-80 for the ride
itself plus gas to get there).

I don't think I'll do it though.

Dood, spoke-face swirl generator lips. Can't argue with that.

ahhhh ezzz better than 40H no?
let me ask a serious question: are the LEWS wheels dirt bike racing
wheels?
as, that's F1 and like the climb from the 8 speed mesa to the 9 speed
mesa, if you're in front ya gottas have one but if in back its money
down the hole. ?

another: i was over at handmade bicycleshow.com.
a. there's ,and off course how could it be avoided, a
birdcage carbon tube
special minus fairing: does it work?
b. Gordon's prices for custom measured bikes have gone
Hollywood.
Are those prices real or is Gordon pulling our chain.
Nice photography there Gordon!

Crazy... but more people seem to be willing to pay that kind of money
for the cutting edge stuff... the trick is working the marketing to
convince enough people that yours is the best...

I'm curious as to how they are made. Are the spokes tensioned? Seems
like they'd need to be, but that would be a trick. Lightweights are
similar but I'm ignorant about them as well. Surely the 4 spokes
dedicated to "torque" in the back aren't, else they'd pull it out of
wack.

Some gems from the spec sheet:

"The hub requires no adjustment or service for the life of the
bearings".

Is that a good thing?

“3 Flange System - The two outer flanges create
superior lateral stiffness while the center flange and
Quad-driveâ„¢ spokes which are located in the same
plane as the rim directly transfer power.
Eliminates the need for off-center rim designs and
uneven spoke-tension due to wheel dish."

I suppose that means they have a "zero dish" design, ie narrow flanges
on both sides. So much for the flanges creating superior lateral
stiffness. If the spokes are very stiff though, maybe it is fine. But
if they didn't make the front wheel flanges narrow too, I'm going to
call BS.

Flex from traditional non-linear load paths of
traditional tensioned steel spokes is eliminated

Definitely calling BS on that one. Can't think of any non-linear load
paths on spokes...

Maybe they sort of pull them up through the rim, glue them in place, and
then snip them off. I also credit them with a new residual stress
herring:

"Each spoke is precisely inserted into the rim at the factory to
create zero residual stress"

Don't ask me what they're talking about.

I think they just mean they're straight pull.
