The helmet couldn't possibly have saved the cyclist's life, because
the psycholists such as Chapman say so!

Wow, Derek, you really don't have any idea about statistics, do you?

You're going all Marie on us again.
What point are you trying to make here?

Helmet (may have) saved cyclists life, so we should all wear one? If I
can find a time a helmet has saved a non-cyclists life, will you wear
one?

I think all cyclists should wear a crash hat, yes. In the case mentioned
the article says that it saved the cyclist's life, why would you doubt the
truth of that?

I expect there are many instances of non road users lives being saved by
wearing a hard hat such as on building sites.

I am also sure there are pedestrian deaths that could have been prevented if
they were wearing a crash hat.

However, cyclists come into a high risk group for head injuries as a result
of crashes and therefore like construction workers should use helmets as
part of their Personal Safety Equipment.

Autopsies on non-helmet wearing cyclists who had died principally of
head injuries in road accidents suggested that 10-16% of them would
probably have survived if they had worn properly fitted cycle helmets.
On average just over a 100 cyclists a year suffer fatal injuries in
road accidents, generally to the head or the trunk of the body so a
worthwhile reduction in fatalities could be achieved simply by wearing
helmets. There might also be a significant reduction in the number of
serious brain injuries.

Or physics, or engineering, or law, in fact the only thing it seems he
does know about, is recording data of tests.

Lets leave aside all your assumptions for the moment ( properly fitted,
probably survived, )and giving you the benefit of all the figures, plus
ignoring your lack of a source for "Autopsies on non-helmet wearing
cyclists who had died principally of head injuries"

115 people die of all causes , 16% of the subset that only died of head
injuries is what? At the very most it could only be 115/100*16=18, and
that's not allowing for those ( like your boxer that you claimed would
have survived if wearing a helmet) who die of multiple injuries.

18. Listen to yourself, you spend all this time trying to convince
people for the sake of a minbus full. Wouldn't you time trying to save
people be better spent somewhere else?

Because it is based on one man's non-expert opinion. Maybe he already
believed like you do.
I don't say it didn't save his life. Even if it did, it is not
statistically significant.

I see you left out car drivers - oops!

Do you have any idea if more car driver or cyclists die from head
injuries each year?
