Classic enclosed cam skewers will hold
fine on horizontal drops for pretty much
anybody. As you point out they used to
work so there's no reason they still
won't. I'll admit to not having paid
enough attention to this thread to recall
what hubs you're using. But I expect
they're decent Shimano stuff with nicely
formed knurls on the locknuts. I expect
you'll be fine with the real skewers.


Ron's right. The old fashioned skewers with the enclosed cams have more
clamping force than the newer exposed "cool" cam versions. And
especially more than the "extra clearence" type made to accomodate the
lawyer lips on newer forks.

The latter should be used on the front wheel only.
