Magnet powered lights
There was this one guy promoting a magnet powered light that flickered
once per revolution of the wheel. This looks like a much improved version, with 28 magnets near the hub in a continous circle to provide a steady light. http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives..._lights.ht ml |

A dynohub without the hubshell! Oh, except it generates vastly less power, which is why it will (or at least should) have vastly less drag. I don't believe that flashing lights, other than turn signals, should be used on roads. I find them as annoying as a pedestrian intermittently blowing a police whistle for safety. I have seen bicycle groups with a rider blowing a police whistle in the days before HID flashing lights during daylight hours. I don't believe HID lights can be operated in flashing mode. (FWIW, I object to flashing /front/ lights also.) Mark J. |

Since this model has a 4 minute stand-light it probably has a steady light mode (no flashing) because of a capacitor, not because it has 28 magnets. The Magtenlight system seems to have all the disadvantages of the Reelight system without its benefits of being cable free. Choosing the Magtenlight over any cheap Shimano hub dynamo is just doesn't make sense. -- Regards |

Choosing the Magtenlight over any cheap Shimano hub dynamo is just doesn't make sense. It has one apparent advantage over hub dynamos, which is not a small one for most poeple. It doesn't require a wheel to be specially built. |
