Default 27" tires (630) Making a Comeback and You'll Never Guess on What!

Someone on this group a while ago was looking for the widest tires
possible for a 27" rim. It turns out that 27 X 1 3/8" is the widest
available (Tioga, Club Roost, Kenda, Cheng Shin to name a few). Well,
to my surprise it looks like Yamaha has decided to go with this size on
its newest creation, the "2006 Electro-Hybrid PAS Lithium bicycle".
This is good news for anyone who owns a 27-incher and will help to
create more demand (and thus ensure future availability) for this size.

For a for description of this really cool ride goto:

Dean Kamen, watch out... your wildly successful and currently ubiquitous
Segway is about to be eclipsed!

It already has been. You can jest, but electro-assist bicycles are (while
far from ubiquitous) reasonably succesful and serve a useful purpose.
Well, in this country, at least. Regulationwise, electro-assist with a
maximum of 50% of total power coming from the engine falls under bicycle
rules rather than moped rules, so no helmets, no license plate, no license
required. Plus, someone who can't use a bike is severely crippled here --
and an electric-assist bike is easier than a Segway, which after all
requires that you stand while using it.

They haven't integrated the 1394 port with the rest of the interface
yet. When you see a small LCD touch screen on the handlebars[1], look
for the 1394 port to be an option. Due to shock and vibration issues,
the preferred location for mounting the iPod will continue to be on
the rider instead of on the bike.

[1] hopefully without a Windows OS behind it.

Sarcasm alert!

(If the Segway were just slightly more successful and ubiquitous, a
measurable portion of the population would probably have seen one in
person. One local business tried renting them out in an area where
there was a cluster of -ique shops; it was a less than stunningly
successful venture from what I heard.)

Needs a better paint job if you're going to haul Pocky.

I sure hope I'm reading that correctly as sarcasm. The rumors about the
Segway were that it was going to change the world, or at least change
the way we commute in major cities.
