What about the second guy's arm? It's bizarrely long, allowing him to
reach back and grip the following rider's seat tube.

Good observation. Obviously Johnny Twelve Teeth's sharp eye picked up
on DNA mutation experiments. I'm guessing that the first guy was
belted by gamma rays and the second guy experienced a cosmic ray
storm. Should be a good Tour!

That explains everything about the LANCE/aliens/blue cooler box
conspirancy; nano-black holes warping gravity to enable faster climbing.
That's what Lafferty was trying to signal from inside his singularity.

Looks like the distortion caused by using a wide angle lens

A telephoto lens at its extreme wide angle - where it doesn't want to
be. Cool effect. I think I'll use the technique next time I take
some pictures of my junk and post them on adult friend finder.

I agree that it is wide angle effect. It's not really distortion -
the photographer is very close to the subject, and that's the
real perspective you would see from very close. In real life,
our brains are good at adjusting our perception so it doesn't
look weird, but when reduced to a small rectangular picture
it looks strange, and you think the photographer is a normal
distance from the rider when he was actually only a few feet
away. Must have been a Belgian moto.

The same is true of the "egg-shaped" effect when people's
heads are near the corner of a wide-angle picture. That's
what a rectilinear projection does, we're just not used to
seeing that way.

Technically, distortion means deviation from a rectilinear
projection (straight lines aren't imaged as straight) but even
a perfect rectilinear wide angle will cause these effects.
Also, a zoom lens at its wide angle end will make almost
the same image as a wide angle lens of the same focal length -
the difference is in the few% of distortion in the zoom, and you
only notice that if the picture has a lot of straight lines, like
a wide shot of a building.

Dumbass,

I thought for sure that was first use, but no.
