A bicyclist who suffered possible spinal injuries was airlifted by a
medical helicopter after spilling his bike on the Rhubarb Trail near
Tennessee Valley Road in unincorporated Tam Valley on Sunday night, a
Southern Marin fire official said.

The man in his 50s was taken by Cal Star medical helicopter based in
Concord to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Southern Marin
Fire Capt. Cary Gloeckener said. The man's identity was not released.

Southern Marin fire personnel responded to the 8 p.m. call to
Tennessee Valley Road where it intersects with Rhubarb Trail. The
accident occurred about a quarter of a mile on the trail.

Hikers generate much more work for S&R than any other group, including
mountain bikers. Skiers and snow boarders have caused a lot of issues during
the winter; the temperature factor makes finding lost skiers/boarders
hazardous for rescue workers.

Riding a bike on the road can be very dangerous:

butbutbut, mountain bikers are a priori evil - just ask Mikey!

Nonsense. Riding a bicycle is less dangerous than many other common
activities. Look at overall statistics, not just one incident.
