Raleigh Super Course, Racing USA....1989?
I have read a number of messages about this line, and
wondering if the one I have is made in the late eighties. The top tube decals say "Racing USA... Super Course". I just picked it up at a yard sale and it is a very pretty bike, stiff and responsive and fairly light at 26 lb.s. It has: Chrome forks w, Raleigh insignia stamped at top, Chrome head tube and wheel stays, the rest is metallic blue (but you can see from some scratches that it's all chrome beneath). Shimano C300g brakes,Shimano derailuers, sealed bb and hubs, Araya 700c 1w rims. The sticker on the seat tube says " Raleigh 555sl, All Doublebutted Chromoly Tubes, made in japan". The woman bought it new from Andy Gilmour's bike shop in Tucson (15-20ys ago) and "said" she paid $450. That seems a little high but it truly looks like a high end bike. I can't seem to find any info on the 'super course' that regards it highly. Is this the only good one they made or am I just being dazzled by the shiny chrome ? Thanks in advance. |
