Vittoria non-folding tires
does anyone know if Vittoria makes non-folding tires?
My bike came with Vittoria tires and I would like to replace them but I can only find folding tires. I didn't think my tires are folding but being a novice biker I am not sure if I can tell the difference. thanks john |

Don't know what style bike you have, but if it's a road bike and you like the Vittoria logo and want a value tire, the Zaffiro is a wire bead model that is quite tough and pretty puncture resistant. It's usually found in the $12 range online. There are better tires out there--but I've used and liked the Zaffiro myself on a bike where it worked very well cosmetically. |

They can be folded into three coils, but the wire is so stiff that the coils will pop open unless tied up. The newer folding clincher tires have two flexible Kevlar beads inside each edge. The Kevlar is so limp that the tires can be folded flat or rolled up tightly into a fist-sized ball that will fit in a large seat-bag. On the left is a single coiled-up and taped steel-bead tire. On the right are two folding Kevlar-bead tires: http://i33.tinypic.com/34fnq0l.jpg Either kind of tire can have a protective Kevlar tread belt. Either kind of tire will fit your clincher rim. Steel bead tires are cheaper, a little heavier, and harder to smuggle past metal detectors. Cheers, Carl Fogel |
