A truck driver at coffee early this morning told me his
company's new 2017 big rigs stop automatically for the sign
with two opposing arrows where one lane splits to two ramps.
His dispatcher called him to ask why he had a hard braking
event.

Yikes!

Yes, it's got to be done right. But I think it won't be long before the
robo-drivers are far better than the human drivers.

Frank thinks ...as an Ohioan. Frank, how goes it with the Indianans ?

Andy's truckers stats show the 2 arrow sign at the end of the OFF RAMP thereafter an EMBANKMENT begs for an aid. Sheeet I wakeump before the oncoming overpass on ramp..IT's a long way from NYC to Bakersfield.

the dileema is solved with a small circuit board transponder for $3.40

I can understand the problem with recognizing what bicycles look like. And trying to predict their movement. But couldn't they supplement the visual detection with some kind of electronic marker? Make a new law that all bikes sold in the US must have some imbedded homing device or electronic signal device that the automatic car can detect. Also make them for sale or give away for all the bikes on the road now. A sticker you put on the bottom bracket that the car can detect and then know a bike is there.

The visual and ultrasound decives are siffecicoemt to know you're there. It's predicting your motions that is the problem.

If the main sensor on the SDC is a form of radar, then some form of Lüneburg
lens might help.
