The article doesn't say that the road was closed. The photo is just the stock one that they pull out for articles about accidents.

Could somebody post a link showing the cycle path with a lamp post in the middle? Stockingstone Road is quite long but I have looked at several sections on Google Street View and can't find where this guy would legally be on the footway.

Of course I am sure that there is no connection with the incident taking place at closing time!

I reckon it would be going down the hill, cyclists have terrible
difficulties with them, frequently ending up dead wrapped round a gate,
lamp-post, fence post etc.

It's difficult to know what was the state of mind of the borough
engineer who decided to site a lamp-post in the middle of the
carriageway (or of a cycle-lane).

These lamp post weapons should be banned.

Motorists account for 1 single fatality per 208,311,415 miles driven. A
simply incredible safety record.

There is no reference to any cyclists in the link you posted, why did
you feel the need?

If people were continually banging on to you about the harbour
hardware that sail boat captains inexcusably rammed their boats into
wouldn't you be inclined (or even tempted) to point out that such
inexplicable behaviour wasn't by any means restricted to users of that
particular viable means of transport?

Many years ago, I was cycling after dark and a woman stopped me to ask
whether I could see a bollard on a cycle way. I simply answered "no, you
have to know it's there". I would have had a Never Ready front lamp at
that
time. The answer satisfied her and we didn't engage in further
conversation.

Don't make assumptions.

Are you ****ing blind or something?

Are you stupid or something? I doesn't occur to you to wonder why a woman
might be standing in near darkness waiting to ask someone?

She was out walking her dog, saw the bollard, saw the cyclist, and assumed he was blind?

My friend drowned in a bowl of muesli - a strong currant pulled him in.
