A127 crash: 'Sensitive and kind' cyclist hit and killed by drugdriver in crash near Wickford
Another drugged up killer driver caught and jailed.
QUOTE: A drug driver has been jailed after he crashed into and killed a "thoughtful, sensitive and kind" cyclist on the A127. David Hanson, 44, of Seal Road in Sevenoaks, Kent, tested positive for cannabis and cocaine after the accident, which left 30-year-old cyclist Ben Greenslade dead. The accident (SIC) took place on the A127 in Wickford, on September 2, 2018, with Hanson crashing the van he was driving into the back of Ben Greenslade's bike. After a lengthy investigation, it was found that Hanson tested double the legal limit for cocaine in blood tests taken after the crash. He was also found to have been 'significantly intoxicated' from an opiate painkiller called dihydrocodeine. He may also have been intoxicated from the effects of cocaine, cannabis and morphine. Yesterday (July 10), he pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 28 months in prison and has been disqualified from driving for three years. Before getting his license (SIC) back, he'll need to undergo an extensive retest of his driving skills. Investigating officer Sergeant Sam Nason said: "This is another tragic case of how someone has sadly died following a collision that involved a drug driver. "Hanson’s actions have left a family devastated with a family losing a son and a brother on one of the county's roads. "While Hanson may have admitted the offences, he can’t repair the damage he has caused and he has been sent to prison. "I hope today’s outcome offers some form of justice to Ben’s family." At the time of Ben's death, his family paid tribute to their son and brother, saying: "Words can't describe how much Ben was loved by everyone who knew him. "He was thoughtful, sensitive and kind, putting everyone before himself. "Ben was extremely athletic, loved to cycle and was at his happiest being outdoors. The whole family is heartbroken by what has happened. “Ben was a wonderful son, a wonderful brother, a wonderful man.” https://www.essexlive.news/news/esse...yclist-4317005 |
