Default How can i get bar-end shifters on 2001 Campy 9 sp gruppo

Hi folks.

I've got a 2001 campy veloce group (triple, long cage rear derailleur).
I want to put bar-end shifters on this rig. I've read that there were
no 9 sp bar ends for the 2001+ 9 sp campy groups, and that the 10 sp
stuff won't work with my 9 sp setup.

What can I do? Can i go get a 10 sp cassette? Is there a way i can
get the group to work with an older 9 sp bar-end shifter?

Thanks

....alex...

Is Campy offering any 10spd downtube shifters? (Dura Ace still does)
then you can get a set of these and make custom bar-ends:
http://www.rivendellbicycles.com/html/catalog.html

It's also possible to use Dura Ace bar-ends with Campy using this:
http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/Shiftmate.asp

I believe you'd need model three.

For some reason, I thought I saw real live campy 10spd bar-ends--so
look around.

For some reason I misread your post and thought you were absolutely
going 10 spd on the rear--anyhow, those options I mentioned are still
worth checking out.

The Shift-mate doohicky from Peter White Cycles might very well save
the day.

9s and even 8s barends are still available, just checked with my
supplier, getting expensive tho, as they get scarce. All are cross
convertible with a shift disc tho, for the three spring model.

But is a 9s barend more expensive than a 10s barend plus a 9s shifter disc
minus selling off the 10s disc on ebay?

9s barends are pushing $190, 10s barends are about $50 cheaper. The
shift disc is $15.

The gent's best option is to get the 10s ones and a cogset and chain. I
assume he thinks lots of his '9s' stuff is not compatible, which is not
true, a misconception many here and elsewhere have.

Okay, so why buy the 9s at all then? And why isn't there a healthy market
on eBay, at least, in 10s-converted-to-9s shifters? Were the 9s
better/different in some way that's not covered by the shift disc
exchange?

Of course, if you do that then every time your chain and/or cassette wears
out you have to buy 10s stuff to replace it, which is as of yet still
significantly more expensive than 9s.

The supplier I use discoints nothing. They just sit on it, and raise
the price as it gets scarce...why 9s barends, not made since 2000, are
so expensive.

10s Chains are $40 vice $20 for 9s, cogsets are $90 versus $65 for
9s...talking veloce. Not significant, IMO.
