For a given thickness of oil, aren't there longer-lasting versions in the
more expensive ones? Especially on older cars which weren't designed as
closely to a particular kind of oil as the newer ones are.

Nope...proper viscosity for the use, and if ya change it like you
should, it all gets dirty, whether it be $3.50 synthetic or generic
10w-30 petro product. They are all certified, if sold in the US..

Looks like SRAM came out with a new line of chains...I can't find the 89R
I've been using for quite a while.

What's the new "best" chain for Campy 9. Looking for longevity, low noise,
etc.

Thanks!

Lee

I have used sram chains for years. They were always very cheap in
price compared to Shimano chains.
My riding partner always used Shimano chains and never seems to have
to change his chain. He has 8000 miles on it and it shows little wear.
I, on the other hand was having to replace my Sram chain every 2000
miles because of chain stretch. All this on Dry paved roads.
I couldn't figure out why he was getting good milage and I was not.
So when the Shimano chains went on sale at Nashbar I bought a couple
for 9 bucks each. I then ordered the Sram Quick link to join them.
I now have over 3000 miles on the shimano chain and I measured it
yesterday and the chain shows almost no wear.
Better steel makes longer wearing chain?
