The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad is investigating the
circumstances surrounding the death of a Ridge man, who was found dead
on a bike trail of the New York State Conservation Area preserve in
Rocky Point.

On May 29, 2008, at approximately 7:00 PM, a mountain biker was riding
the preserve's trails in Rocky Point, when he discovered Richard A.
Olson, 49, of 28 Tarkhill Trail, Ridge, lying next to his mountain
bike on one of the trails. The biker checked on Olson and then called
911. He then met responding Seventh Precinct Officers and led them
about one and a half miles into the woods, to where the victim was
lying.

Olson was pronounced dead at the scene by a Physician Assistant. His
body was removed to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office,
where a postmortem examination will be performed to determine the
exact cause of death.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident
to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS, or contact the Homicide
