since there appears to be myth and ignorance surrounding bearing balls
in bike circles, here is a quickie fact summary:

* *My question is why are ball bearings considered for bicycle
applications rather than say roller bearings or tapered roller
bearings? Is the tradeoff due to weight considerations? I'd think
that roller bearings in headsets and bottom brackets might make
sense.

we already have them. *dura-ace octalink bb's have rollers. *stronglight
*and ritchie have headsets that use rollers.

Does my 105 *Octalink BB have roller bearings or iddy biddy little
round bearings? * What is the lifespan of these ocalink bb's. * (mine
is 3 years old already)

7/32 balls I think, round..last time I checked one that broke in half.
