Will SRAM Force brakes work ok, have the right feel, with DA7700
STI Shifters?

yes but I think the ultegra ones are better units. Better blocks,
better looking, IMO, of course.

Peter,

The 6600 brakes are fine units but I'm wondering if the SRAM stop
better? *

They will both stop you just fine but fit/finish, overall look I think
is superior with shimano, even 105 '10s' units to any sram.

If you already have shimano brakes and want "better" stopping power,
consider changing your pads to Kool-Stop "Salmon" colored ones. For
about $10/pair, its the best and cheapest way to improve your
stopping!

Yes, but don't buy the recalled ones. http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07153.html

I also agree with bfd that Ultegra brakes with salmon KoolStops are
excellent stopping brakes. I have never wanted anything stronger
except in the rain when all rim brakes suffer (and rims, too). -- Jay

salmon pads are the worst stopping pads i've ever used in the rain.
[that's real rain, where you get wet, not "rain" where there's a dark
streak in the middle of your tire.] sure, they may not scrape up your
rims as bad, but that's a minor consideration compared to being able to
stop on demand! and those things just don't. awful.

and they're not even that good at the rim scraping thing either:

The old Campy rubber pads were far worse, and so were the old stock
Shimano, IMO -- but I don't know what they're spec'ing on new brakes
these days. Maybe something better. The deal is that I ride in the
rain maybe six months a year down some very steep, broken concrete
roads through the Portland West Hills. I have not found any rim brake
pad that works that well under those conditions. The salmon KoolStops
are pretty good, IMO, but are not amazing (as some suggest). That is
why I use disks on my commuter. Even when my brakes are perfect,
traction is an issue. Some of my routes home turn in to bobsled runs
in the heavy rain. I am still looking for the best rain tire. -- Jay
Beattie.

old shimano gritted up real bad. the new ones are good though. and
they work in the rain - or at least, the all-weather ones do. there are
two types out.

i've tried both, don't like the former in the rain as they're not too
effective, and so use the latter year round. they work as advertised.
