Eddie B loses home in fire
Legendary USA Olympic Cycling Coach Eddie Borysewicz (better known a Eddie B.) has lost his home in
the wild fires raging in Southern California. He was able to get out, but everything in his home was
lost, including photos and awards from his coaching and cycling careers. He lives near Ramona,
California east of San Diego.

I've been there. Neat place. Lots and lots of trees...

I'm glad we didn't lose him, but its a bummer to hear that he didn't get the
memorabilia out... Always easier to replace memorabilia than it is to
replace people!

They require enough insurance to replace the house, not the contents ... And
that's just to buy. People can let insurance lapse, or reduce coverage at a
later date.

I was out in Ramona with Eddie all day yesterday and today. The barn
survived, but the house is a total loss. We managed to dig out a few
momontos out of the ashes today, but everything else was lost.

Eddie does have some insurance, but not nearly enough to replace his home,
as modest as it even was. I am trying to get donations to help Eddie try to
rebuild. If anyone of you can help with any amount, it would be much
appreciated. You can contact me directly and I can give you details.

As long as I have known Eddie, he has always given the shirt off his back to
people and athletes that needed it. He is trying to put on a brave face, but
he is devastated on the destruction of his house.

Umm, don't be so quick to judge. It is really easy to not have enough
insurance to cover your home in the event of its total destruction.
Particurlarly if you have been in your home for a long time and have not
increased your insurance coverage to compensate for rising replacement
costs.

I wouldn't be surprised if over 30% of those reading this newsgroup didn't
have adequate insurance for their homes.

I'm sorry to hear about Eddie B. But I'm glad he is ok - that is the most
important thing.

You should realize that fame and fortune don't necessarily go hand in
hand. I don't think Eddie was exactly living large in Ramona.

It's not really the state that requires the insurance, it's the mortgage
companies.
