Options for f. brake cable stop?
Old suspension fork had the cable stop on the fork's arch. The new fork has
no such stop, nor a hole for adding one. What are my options for providing a cable stop for the f. brake? Something incorporated in the stem or spacer or such? Steer tube is 1&1/8 inch threadless. Brakes are Shimano (old) XTR cantilever. Thanks. |

The hanger _has_ to be attached to the lower part of the fork. Anywhere else, and the distance from hanger to brake is dynamic. You pull the cable, the front of the bike dives, and the brake releases. The brake becomes useless. If the arch had a hole, you could use a "PowerHanger" bell crank, or an add-on hanger that still used a traditional straddle wire and yoke. But if the arch is not drilled, really, your only choice is a linear- pull brake (like Ron linked to), plus a Travel Agent if you're using the old levers. Figure $40-50 total, ~$20 each for brake and travel agent, plus a new cable. |

Your new brakes and levers will be linear ("V") type. -- Andrew Muzi www.yellowjersey.org/ Open every day since 1 April, 1971 |
