Default Raleigh Magnum All Terrain

Hi all,

I need help identifying the bottom bracket for the Raleigh Magnum All
Terrain. There is little on the web about this model, but here is an
example:

or tiny url:

http://tinyurl.com/d9azvg8

The shell looks like it's 68mm but the non-driveside cup has a 6-sided
nut on the outside. Am I looking at a non-standard Raleigh size here?

Also the shell looks like it has a larger than usual (?) diameter. Approx
6cm from reckoning.

(Pictures sent but possibly will be rejected by server; if so, standby).

Probably, given the description 'Raleigh's first Mountain
bike' an inexpensive but standard thread crank bearing
assembly. That would be, what? 1981? 1982? Unlikely to be
any special thread or format. Doesn't appear British built
so I'd bet on 1.370" x 24t BSC.

Why? Could be rebuilt with new bearings and if it's ruined
consult here again. Or, to change to a more modern crank
set, just buy the matching crank bearing assembly when you
get the crank.

Regarding photos, can't post them to this part of usenet but
you can upload your snaps somewhere else and link as you did
above.

I took apart the bottom bracket on my Raleigh Magnum this
weekend. The bottom bracket looks to be a an American BMX
sized cup and cone arrangement with press in cones.
Bearings are caged 5/16".

If the link you sent previously:
http://www.re-buy-cycle.co.uk/details.php?id=174&temp=4

is indeed the bike in question, they are standard 1/4"
bearings in a standard square taper format. If you have some
other bicycle, I don't know.

Note that in the 1980s, Raleigh was suffering the throes of
change deeply, existentially for some divisions. Divisions
were sold or merged or closed, outside contractors changed
frequently and tradenames/trademarks were licensed here and
there as well.
