Default "Trail bike" new bike Catagory or marketing

Just a simple question, is a trail bike actually a new catagory of
bike, or a buzz word?

The reason I ask is that from what I keep hearing, this 'type' of bike
sounds like the kind of bike I would be looking for. It sounds like a
combination of a XC and an All mountain.

Hi Mike,

It is new terminology for a plain, old mountain bike. These days there
is a bit of a continuum between the XC racers and the FR/DH bikes. If
the bike is more towards the racer end of the spectrum, it is called an
XC bike...if it is more towards the FR/DH end, it is classified as All
Mountain (AM). In between, are trail bikes...made to generally have fun
and do most stuff at a moderate speed.

I think that "trail bike" is probably just a catch-all term. It seems
that xc and all-mountain have a very thin line seperating them and one
persons idea of a certain all-mt might be some elses idea of an xc, I
suppose the term trailbike covers both.

just my $.02 Eric
