Default FA: Campagnolo Rally / Nuovo Record derailleur

Ebay auction: 3695150187

Campagnolo Nuovo Record long-cage rear derailleur. Designed for triple
cranksets and/or big freewheels. Perfect for retrofitting vintage road bikes
with lower gears. Climb hills easier than when you were racing in the
juniors.

This derailleur appears to be almost identical to the Campagnolo Rally
long-cage derailleur from the late 70's. However, this derailleur has the
"Nuovo Record" parallelogram cage plates. This particular model does not
show up in any catalogues that I have access to. It shows no signs of
modifications or alterations. It is in excellent cosmetic condition with
some normal chain rub on the inside of the cage plates. My guess is that
this was produced by Campagnolo in small numbers for sponsored riders. It
would be used for difficult mountain race stages where Campagnolo did not
want their top riders to be seen using a touring derailleur. This derailleur
would allow the use of a wide-range freewheel and/or the 36/42/52 tooth
triple crankset that Campy produced in the 70's.
