After a second evening of riding around in almost-but-not-quite complete
darkness it's apparent that the LED setup delivers significantly more light
than a halogen bulb. The radiation pattern control appears to be much worse,
however. On balance it's a considerable improvement, nonetheless.

For anyone wanting to try this experiment themselves it would be worthwhile
to try http://www.ledsupply.com/l2-op-520.html optics instead of the Star/O.
