Your 12 year old is training for such a long ride? That's wonderful. I
am training for a 25 mile ride on my birthday. I will think of your
daughter as I am training for my 25 mile ride for MS. With the weather
in Jersey, it seems the only training I get lately is at the gym. I
hope the spin classes help me gain strength. I really want to get
outside and start testing my endurance. Riding a stationary bike is
probably quite different from riding 25 miles outside. Hopefully I will
get the chance to get outside. If it ever stops raining. :-)
Good Luck.
Maggie

It's official, now: my 12 year old daughter will train for the STP for
2005
and ride it with me. The first day will be ~108 miles to Chehalis, and
then
we'll do 100 the next day to bring us into Portland. This will be three
weeks before she celebrates becoming bat mitzvah in August.

Training begins in January. I'll keep you all posted.

That sounds great Claire! You guys will really enjoy the ride together.
Next STP will be my fourth. Unfortunately I didn't start riding until I was
59 and don't have many "under my belt". The first two were on my single,
last years was on the tandem with my wife and next year will be a one day
ride. My son and I are going to start our training right after New Years in
the SW Washington/NW Oregon area so we'll have lots of rain gear at the
ready! Pass on our kudos to your daughter, you'll have a great time.

By the way, do you know the ending point this time....still downtown or are
they going back to the St. Johns bridge area?

John

This was recently discussed on the Cascade events board. See:

Me, I'd much much prefer St. Johns bridge, but I think there's too many
people who want the thing to end at a hotel.

She used to ride the pony, but she's been on the tandem now for several
years. We bought another tandem, so that the whole family can ride now.
