(the original topic expired, i couldn't reply to it anymore)

hi again!!!

finally a little update from my side: started in orlando on november
11th, going nw around the city, hitting the atlantic coast at ormond
beach. from there on i went west, following the southern tier route
from adv-cycling (see link above).
it was a wonderful trip until sanderson (west of del rio, tx),
yesterday, but then the cold weather and nw-wind made it impossible for
me to go on through alpine and fort davis, so i hitched a ride to el
paso where i'm right now, frustrated, that i didn't manage to make i on
my on. tomorrow i'm going to take off, skipping the mountains and the
worst cold weather by keeping south through tucson, joining the
adv-cycling route somewhat east of phoenix again, where my girlfriend
will join me for the last 500 miles.
pictures soon!

as it got a little warmer, i made it through the mimbres mountains (las
cruzes - hatch - hillsboro - kingston - silver city). i can only
recommend this route, it is breathtakingly beautiful and there are some
mean climbs... ;-)
now i'm in lordsburg, taking the shortest way to tucson.

jim: i was camping when it wasn't as cold as it is now... i guess i'll
be camping again tomorrow or somewhen after tucson. i'm sick of the
****ty and expensive motels. i have only met one couple from california
(going east) somewhere west of austin. nobody else so far... but my
girlfriend will join me in phoenix for the last 500 miles.

Henning,

Hang in there, it sounds like you are almost to those last 500 miles
that you'll bicycle with your girlfriend. I'll definitely be
interested in seeing some of the photos and also your advice to others
in the future of things to do and not do for such a southern crossing.

Given that you are going directly to Tuscon, it sounds like your
picking your own route and not always following adventure cycling
route. Have fun on rest of your trip!
