Default World's Lightest Production Wheelset?

Hi,

There's a video description of Reynold's new RZR wheelset here from a
third party reviewer. http://road.cc/node/11573

They are 875g a pair and made of a boron-carbon combo. Spokes are
carbon, nipples are carbon, inside the rim...spokes are a non-standard
NACA 303 airfoil. The reviewer says that "minor" nicks and impacts to
the spokes actually damages it layer by layer stopping at each,
instead of running through the entire strands of carbon thus reducing
chances of catastrophic failure. You will remember that carbon spokes
in MAVIC's R-Sys wheelset weren't a bright idea and they had a number
of issues out on the field.

Wonder what other's think of it? Wheel experts?

Using such wheels is asking for trouble.

Actually, it's paying dearly for trouble.

Lot of money.

Nisi special 200g
modern hub 100g
24, 15swg spokes and brass nipples 170g You can save a bit by using
aluminium nipples and use fibre washers.

So that's 470g for a wheel. Less if you use 15/16 here, probably only
likely on the front.

On a purely functional level, think I'd rather ride on the forgiving
aluminium rim. I dont think that a wheelset weighing less than 2lb is
giving any sort of weight penalty to any rider, ever. Acceleration
defects are within the legs. It's a positional and skill problem not
a wheel issue. The weight of these wheels is less than the water I
carry. You just dont need to push them this far. I know the braking
characteristics of an aluminium rim. Resin bonded rims are not ideal
for continued braking so are only really suited to flat rides.
