Hi
Can't help with the Venice end, but you might find something of use here?
(the Tuscany, Umbria, Marche bits).

Hope it helps.

Cheers... Allan.

Last September my wife and I biked from Venice to Lucca, which is west of
Florence. We biked south down the Lido which is the island just east of Venice
(took two Ferry rides to get to Chioggia), to Ravenna where we turned west
heading to Florence. I do not know where Ancona is. Guess I will have to check
the map. We carried our gear and found accomadations as we went. We had a
great time.
This year we are headed to Provence and would love to get info from people that
have done that.
Email me at (different then this address) if you want
details.

I rode from Venice south to Ancona many, many years ago, when I was
young and not as wise about choosing my routes. I went inland to
Bologna, then to Ravenna and south along the Adriatic coast, a very
flat route if you look at a topo map. If I had it to do over again, I
would bike south from Bologna into the hills of Umbria. To be fair,
it was early November, and it might have been quite a bit chillier in
the hills. Bologna is a nice town, and Ravenna has some attractions,
but the Adriatic coast south of Ravenna was pretty sad in early
November. Crossing the Po River delta south of Venice was also pretty
boring, as I recall. I was trying to catch a ferry departing from
Ancona, so I had a tight schedule. Turned out the boat was running
about 4 days late!

I am from Italy and although I have never ridden the Adriatic coast I
know bits and pieces of it from long gone holidays. My suggestion is
to get a good map and unless you like riding in traffic try to avoid
the coast as it will be very busy. I am sure there are plenty of
alternative inland although this means the road will be more hilly.
Your ride should be flat from Venice to the end of Emilia Romagna,
after that in Marche region it gets pretty hilly inland.
Good luck with the trip. Go to the tours section of cyclingtheworld to
see if you can find anyone who has done a similar trip

There's only one site you need; the oldest, and most comprehensive cycle
touring site on the Internet - the Trento Bike Pages:
http://www-math.science.unitn.it/Bike/

The site has been maintained as a "labor of love," by Andreas Caranti,
at the University of Trento, Italy since 1994.
