Think he'll go out of his way to get to the start of the Giro? Perhaps he will, to get to the Tour start in *some* sort of condition. |

Lance isn't dumb, and must be considering that he's just a tad bit more "mortal" than before. His status isn't that of being the only "protected" rider on the team, and as someone who's now having to push his own limits not to win but just to remain competitive, he's in there with the rest of those who have to ride in a way that's a bit more risky than when you can overpower everyone else and ride off the front if things get dicey. Just think how we ride ourselves if we're in a bit over our heads. That wheel in front of you becomes the most important thing in the world, and as you tire, you're more likely to make a small mistake and overlap or follow someone's wheel who's more likely to crash. Lance's "luck" in the past was more a product of circumstance. The strongest rider, fully protected position in the team, and perhaps even other teams looking out for him in a way, knowing that if they did something stupid and brought Lance down, there'd be hell to pay. I get the feeling Lance is a bit more "one of the guys" out there now. One hell of a rider still, but not the same we saw before. --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles www.ChainReactionBicycles.com |

Thanx for the fast reply. there's always the dauphine, but losing 6 weeks at this point in the game probabally means it is over. |

If it was Amstrong back in the day, I don't think that would matter much at all. He'd take a week off riding, then be training very hard as he always does Considering he's been away from the sport for so long, he might need the technical challenge of racing more this year, in which case a long time away from racing could hurt him more. |

Good thing they had the world's best stage racer as a backup plan. Bob Schwartz |
