He's getting over an illness. He got dropped out the back when the peloton
picked up the speed at the run-in to the finish.

Fever, so the television commentators said. He was looking really, really
bad - credit to him for only dropping two minutes! Also, his domestiques
let him down - he was back among the team cars on his own with no-one to
help pace him back to the peloton. Seeing they didn't seem to do much to
lead Big Maggie out either, I imagine some words are being said around
the leaky gas breakfast table this morning.

I was sure it was the usual attempt to put himself out of contention so
he could take a flyer in the mountains, but given that Danilo didn't
start today, I think the official explanation of "prostate infection"
holds, er, water.
