As it is the minority of walkers and cyclists mostly have beards and, hence, can be ignored. It's not the way monkey society works. The alpha leaders set the rules and the others follow. The Auckland City Council here in New Zealand has spent a hundreds of thousand dollars (and plan to spend more) on silly bike lanes and bike storage facilities at places like ferry wharves and bus / train stations ... and very few people use them. They're a complete waste of money, and bike lanes on the road simply cause extra traffic congestion by taking up a possible extra lane space. The bike nutters want Government to pay to put a bike and footpath track underneath the Harbour Bridge, but the distance involved is so far and the bridge so steep that almost nobody will actually use it ... despite the bike nutters' claims of thousands of people will use it every year. Just another silly white elephant at tax payer expense to appease an extreme minority of loud mouths. You got their intentions wrong. They want to spend on "bike facilities" to feed corruption just like any other project. It could be "street beautification" like it is here. Nothing beautiful about it, just corruption. If the alpha leaders wanted people to ride bikes, they would come out and ride bikes themselves. MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO. |
