Bears can move at 35 mph. I have heard that they are considerably slower downhill, though I wonder how anecdotal that might be. 35 mph. I can hit that for very short periods of time on the flat, full-sprint, on my road bike. snip The thing about bears is that they're fast, smart predators, and they can weigh 900 pounds (more in the case of polar bears, which are not frequently encountered by cyclists). Ah, but how long will a 900 pound bear continue to pursue you? My guess would be the bear would give up after ten seconds or less. Austin -- I'm pedaling as fast as I durn well please! (Which would be pretty fast when pursued by a bear.) There are no X characters in my address |
