Default Guelph to Fergus in less than 1000 calories

or How I learned to stop worrying and love the headwinds.

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3061196

I did a 77 km loop on Sunday to the north. Having lots of fun with my heart
rate monitor. Anyone else use these? It calculates calories burned. I have
no idea how accurate it is but I am now thinking of rides in terms of
calories as well as time and distance. does anyone else use these things?

The point of the ride, if one needs a point, was to discover the exact
western bits of the Elora Cataract trail. I ridden it all the way to
Cataract before but the trail disintegrates in place in Elora and Fergus and
I wanted to find each existing piece. As a goal it was mission accomplished.
Considering that Elora and Fergus are touristy areas relying on visitors to
buy in the trendy shops and bistros and Oooh! and Ahhh! at the Elora Gorge
it is a wonder they don't make their end of the Elora Cataract trail a
centerpiece. Instead it is unimproved rail right of way and unused scrub
land in many places. A shame as at one point where it crosses the river on
the rebuilt trestle it allows for a wonderful view.

About the winds: As summer has finally arrived in that it is not constantly
raining but is still rather humid the winds are now welcome for their
convection properties.

About the return leg: Wellington Rd. 29 and 4th&5th line are now my
favourite routes back down to home. Good surfaces and not too much traffic.
Just the right amount of hills but over all a downslope.

Congratulations, 1000 calories is equal to 5 original Krispy Kreme
glazed donuts! A great way to end a great ride. Enjoy...

Acutally, according to the monitor the entire loop was over 3000 calories,
so I guess I could have a dozen donuts with calories to spare. In reality I
chose a Geek Souvlaki dinner at a local restaraunt that in addition to
having good 'n garlicly food has the cutest waitress.

My average seems to be about 750 calories per 25 km per hour.

3000 calories? Then you can eat about 600 grams (1.3 pounds) of baklava
pastry!

I like baklava, but 600 grams may be a little too much for one
sitting. ;-)

300 calories

http://www.timhortons.com/ca/en/menu...alculator.html

I was turned off Timmies [and thus had to surrender my Canadian passport]
for two reasons. One was there 'no bikes in the drive through policy. The
other was when they shrunk their portion sizes, particularly cookies and
muffins. The cookie used to be a substantial thing. Now it is the size of a
grocery store bag offering.

That and I've pretty much reduced my coffee intake to the first pot at home
when I get up.

Hi there recycled.

We are almost neighbours as I am located in Cambidge. I gave up on
Timmies too when they changed there coffee supplier. I find their
coffee now tastes like cardboard.

Have you ever tried the coffee at the Halfway Cafe in Glen Morris?
It's really good and is made with non-clorinated well water. You can
taste that difference.

Cheers from Peter

Haven't been down that way for quite some time. Lately I've been going
north. I am considering a Grand Loop from Guelph to Cambridge - picking up
the rail trail - to Paris to Brantford to Hamilton then back up Brock Rd to
home so I can finally get that century under my belt.

If so I will look for a pit stop in Glen Morris. Weather and motivation
permitting I hope to get out Sunday or Monday.

I do a lot of fairly long rides without even eating breakfast but I stay
within 4 or 5 miles of the house in case of an oncoming bonk. I can go
about 2 hours before my reserves are used up and I do lose weight that
way but long trips are out. Sometimes I recover by the afternoon and do
it again, combining a fasting day with a calorie burning day.
I lost so much weight about 4 years ago my wife said I looked like a POW
and demanded I gain weight.
I felt great but managed to wear her jeans by mistake, and that just set
her off ballistic.

A "fairly long ride", but within 4 or 5 miles of the house... Hmmmm, what
do you do, ride laps around the neighborhood? LOL! By the way, what
exactly is an "oncoming bonk"?

Yeah, that's a great way to lose weight, Bill. Real healthy. Yeah.

I felt great but managed to wear her jeans by mistake, and that just set
her off ballistic.

I keep thinking you can't say anything more stupid than you already have,
but you just keep surprising me.
