That's pretty far off, from xe.com on 7/28/04:

1 Euro = 1.20552 USD.

Better exchange rate than it was a few months ago, but still not
very good.

Dear Steven and others,

The average exchange rate was one U.S. dollar for 1.00654
Euros for the month of July, 2002:

http://www.x-rates.com/d/EUR/USD/hist2002.html

If you look again at the article from Cycling News about
what was the upcoming July 2004 Tour de France , you'll see
that it's speaking mostly of 2002 in the prize money
section.

The article could, of course, have been clearer. Thank
heavens that we at rec.bicycling.tech are free from such
faults!

My 0.016603 Euro's worth as of 07-29-2004.
