Late start + epic ride = 8pm finish
Wow, did we **** up. Here's sunset from the flanks of Fox Mtn:
http://homepage.mac.com/getosx/trail-condor/sunset.jpg We were up at 5000ft and really should have been down at 2000ft at the car 10 miles away by this time. At least we got across the worst of the landslides and exposure before it got pitch black. The picture above was taken pointing to the west/right towards the San Fernando Valley from somewhere about half way up the peak in this photo: http://www.ronbigelow.com/trails/con..._100_1.psd.jpg The worst of the exposure was while transitioning across the west/right face of Fox Mtn pictured. I wish we had read Ron's advice at the bottom of this page before the ride: http://www.ronbigelow.com/trails/condor/condor_3.htm Anyway, after picking our way down to Big Tujunga the trail designers had major cruel intentions. We're only 100ft above the highway looking at the headlights of the sporadic car on the road when the trail made an abrupt about face and started heading back up the mountain. JD and I were both bonking at this point and the 2 additional miles to the trailhead on Big T were quite the hallucination fest, probably exacerbated by the darkness. Once we hit the road and noticed that there was a minor hill ahead of us I pulled out the last of my pretzels and we divvied up the crumbs for a bit of energy for the road ride back to the car. Thankfully the Jeep was unmolested by the local tweakers and we made it to In-and-Out Burger in good time. More photos to follow after I recover. Greg |

Stuffing those cheeseburgers into my face, I was thinking to myself that there was no other place I would rather have been at that moment. It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game when the tide turns drastically. JD |

SorniKrishna It wasn't intended as epic and the one factor that made it such was the lighting conditions on a large portion of the descent. JD |

Bonk, my way to not is pasta before ride and water /
trailmix during ride. Tried this after my 2nd race. When I bonked so bad once I finished 7th I couldn't move like I was on drugs. I don't race anymore retired after taking 1st place in 03. |

Thankfully the Jeep was unmolested by the local tweakers and we made it to In-and-Out Burger in good time. OK, what's up with the In & Out burger. I have to admit that I see them and pass them all the time when out west (we don't have them here on the east). When I was in Anaheim in the spring, they made daily lunch runs to one to feed the staff. I always opted out thinking it must be like Mickey D's which makes me ill. Now my curiosity has peaked. Why are they so good? How to the differ from other fast food burgers? I like Red Robbin burgers, especially the Hawaiian Burger (terriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple, and a slice of ham on top). -- o-o-o-o Ride-A-Lot o-o-o-o www.schnauzers.ws |

We were already 5 hours into the ride at that point and I didn't have much energy to pull my camera out. But JD did point out that we should take advantage of the opportunity to get some nice shots. It could have been our last. Greg |
