They won't even have to give California a financial sweetener: by itself, California will be the fourth to ninth richest country in the world, depending on how you count, and it is self-financing, fleecing its middle class more heavily than any other State in the Union. It may that the Western States will have to agree to a closed border with California, so that middle-class Californians can no longer flee the mismanagement of California's coastal elite by moving to Arizona. http://www.nationalreview.com/articl...k-middle-class Notice the on-topic stolen bike in the article. Andre Jute Guru It shows a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge. Tolls have risen to the point where it is presently $5 a crossing about to rise to perhaps $7 in the near future. This is to pay for maintenance on the bridge. But they have NOT been maintaining even the Golden Gate. Why? The paint on the Golden Gate has degraded to the point where it is allowing water to seep into the support wires and corrosion has gotten quite a way on. The Oakland span of the Bay Bridge rather than given to an American company was awarded to a Chinese company with nearly an identical bid. Then they allowed the Chinese company to insert "improvements" that more than doubled the cost of the bridge. We have since discovered that there isn't one single strand of steel anywhere in the suspension OR INSIDE THE CONCRETE SUPPORT STRUCTURE that meets the US standards. Many engineering analysis say that in the case of a large local quake that the bridge is very likely to collapse. The mismanagement of every single vestige of California under the liberals is unbelievable. Presently the snowpack is above normal levels. All of the reservoirs in the state are overflowing and they're opening the flood gates because of increasing rainfall. They just announced on the TV the 58% of California is still in severe drought conditions. Since the entire snowpack in northern California is about normal, the central valley water table is back to normal. southern California has been experiencing record rains and all of the reservoirs are filled except where the flood gates have been opened to prevent the dams from being overloaded in the continuing rains you have to ask what 58% is dry. The liberals simply believe that if they NEED something to be true to retain power they need only say it. So far it appears to be working since the college students will march in the streets to Save The Eucalyptus. Excuse me (hand goes up at back of class). Wasn't it Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, who outsourced the bridge to China? http://www.cnbc.com/id/47631526 -- Jay Beattie. Sorry - the governor does not buy or sell. This is the job of the legislature which was TOTALLY controlled by the Democrats. Brown, on the other hand, represents his controlling party. Hmm. "Nonetheless, Schwarzenegger and his administration began actively courting foreign bidders. In 2005, Schwarzenegger traveled to China on a trade mission. During the visit, state transportation secretary Sunne Wright McPeak ceremonially presented officials with a set of CDs including bidding specifications for the Bay Bridge project..." -- - Frank Krygowski And Schwarzenegger was give a D by the republican party for 7/8ths of his policies from approval of abortion to economics - say but not do. But it is the LEGISLATURE that spends the money. So why are you pretending otherwise? Learn civics. The legislature appropriates and the executive spends, in this case, via Caltrans or the freshly-minted Toll Bridge Program Oversight Committee. There were no contracts between "the legislature" and the contractors who did the work. See post above with all the cites, including the appropriations bill. http://www.dof.ca.gov/budget/Budget_Process/index.html NO budget submitted to the legislature is EVER signed off on as you imply. This budget process takes months and EVERY line must be accounted for and the revenue sources to pay for it included in these sorts of projects. Funding for the bridge was not part of the ordinary budget cycle. The bill identified funding sources and authorized the issuance of bonds, among other things. Governor Brown has claimed consistently that this state has NO debts. And yet ALL of the bridges are presently going without the maintenance necessary to make the payments on the Bay Bridge span. Governor Brown has ALSO accepted liabilities for California Care, Low income housing and guaranteed home loans to illegal aliens that will NEVER be paid off. I kind of doubt Governor Brown said the state had no debt. http://www.mercurynews.com/2014/01/0...for-restraint/ He probably said there was a budget surplus. Then they dance around it by using the trick of saying that these are all accounted for by the payments and the bridge tolls. Well, the funding for the span was specified in the bill which includes the issuance of toll revenue bonds, meaning bonds paid off with tolls, but that was only one funding source. The state incurred additional debt in one way or another. -- Jay Beattie. http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...n-it-last.html You're right. He didn't say we were out of debt - he said we have a surplus.. |
