When I had my road bike custom-equipped in 1982 they also offered a
Merckx frame. It would have cost the equivalent of about $200 more and
since my budget was a pretty hard $800 I opted to take a Gazelle frame.
It is very light, Reynolds steel with tapered wall thickness and all.
That was before I added a lot of stuff. It looks very worn now but still
does 50-80mi each week.

Maybe if I'd taken the Merckx frame I'd be rich now :-)
