As far as I know bicycles have the legal right to use roads and
highways in all of the U.S. states. If this is correct why can't they
take their chances like the rest of the legal road users?

Given the number of "danger! danger!" posts I see I thought it was
germane.

Oh, by the way. about 525,283 Usians die annually as a result of
obesity which makes a discussion of the "dangers of bicycleing" look a
bit absurd :-)
