Its sort of like saying Freedmanist Marxist. |

Its sort of like saying Freedmanist Marxist. They are all ideologies of the left, differing only in their intensity. Ideologies of the left emphasize the collective as opposed to the individual. For instance, ideologies of the right end up with the divine right of kings. Again, just a matter of intensity. Ideologies of the right emphasize the individual as opposed to the collective. This first half was devoted to the micro and the second half was devoted to the macro. Once I got the hell out of that course, I determined never again in my life to have anything to do with anyone connected to the subject of economics. They are all wizards of nonsense in my not so humble opinion. Instead I fled into sociology and anthropology where I could make some sense of the subjects and of the thinkers in those fields. I have never looked back and to this day I hold anyone who is interested in economics in contempt. Regards, Ed Dolan the Great - Minnesota aka Saint Edward the Great - Order of the Perpetual Sorrows - Minnesota You have taken way more economics or sociology or anthropology than I have. However, the economy greatly influences society and without taking a class you can read about it. So, to opine about society as you often do, you need to understand the economic forces that drive it. After all, the political decisions that you defend or criticize are essentially grounded on economics. Whether or not you support or oppose ideology or policy, you need to understand what the forces that shape them, especially economic ones that drive them. Otherwise, to paraphrase Clive Owen in Inside Man, you are just whistling Dixie out of your ass. |

Well, that is what Tom Sherman is always telling me too, but my contempt for such types overrides everything else. Sorry, but I am who I am and so is everybody else. I have read economic histories of societies, but I always come away from them unconvinced. It seems to me that they miss everything that is important. I know my life does not revolve around economics. I am as poor as a church mouse and have been so all of my life. That has nothing to do with who I am or what I am about. I give everyone else the same benefit that I give myself. You have to read Marx for a true perspective on economic determinism. It never made any sense and those who tried to implement it ended up being nothing but murderers on a mass scale. It is why I hate the left and all those believe in the perfectibility of mankind, if only ... blah, blah, blah. Our human nature determines what we are capable of, not economic plans for human improvement.
