A. "Det Constable Amanda Hawke [said] 'Ms Barimore had been told by a
marshal not to cross where she was standing, where she was wanting to
cross on the corner. He pointed out the official crossing point. But she
ignored his advice".

No citizen is obliged to obey such a self-appointed and self-important
"official". A police officer or a traffic warden (in uniform) may direct
travellers.

B. "Ms Barimore's nephew, Jonathan Shearer, said there were 'presumably'
no barriers, and asked: 'Is there any action that could be taken in that
space to prevent it happening again?'

Of course - ban cycle racing on the highway and back up that ban with
criminal sanctions for organisers and participants. Let them hire a
stadium or a racetrack. Brand's Hatch and Silverstone may well be
available. Of course, it won't be free, and that's an obvious problem.

Do not mistake my specific condemnation of cycle racing on the highway
as support for any other form of vehicular racing on the highway.

How do you feel about the London Marathon or the Wirral Egg Run?

How about when the F1 GP prevents emergency services reaching those in need because the local roads are clogged with cars?

All racing - every form of it - is about as important as the colour of
the surface-mounted mains cable in a cyclists's kitchen and none of it
is worth the life of a single innocent citizen.

I hope that is now sufficiently clear.

Her fault.

Indeed - I was on duty in Beverley last July and we had tipsy ladies tottering in front of "hunky" cyclist all evening. Maybe they were on the pull?

I was also a witness to this unofficial "race".
Nobody had paid any "road tax" (sic) either!

Who "warned" her?
Some tosser cycling prick with absolutely no authority to tell people what
to do.

This race needs marshals and goes past my house next month.

Should I offer my services?

It's clear why Simon Jester gave up trying to have a grown-up discussion with you.
