It's amazing that so few people pull out a topo or a forest service map to
see what's out there beyond the guidebooks and websites.

Greg

except for the fact that most USGS topos are way outdated. What do you use
for more up-to-date maps? Is there a newer source?

Sometimes the best maps are the older ones.

Gary (sure, you didn't invite me.....)

If you had been headed this way, you know you would have been included,
ya goofball.

Should have been called riding with the big red ones. Watch out for that tree.

Once a dogface, always a dogface, huh Fred?

Nice report JD, I am leaving tomorrow AM for three days up there, the
last
day being the Plunge. I have rounded up a local rider that is showing us
the high elevation goods up around Kennedy Meadows...only hoping we find
the
good stuff.

Thanks Dean. The only way to find the good stuff is to get away from
the popular trails, you know that.

Your group Sunday frightens me. Bring a large first aid kit, iodine
tablets and/or a water filter. The "leader" of that pack frightens me
even more, as in the blind leading the blind. I wouldn't follow that
fool in stop and go traffic on The 5 for fear of getting lost. Oh
yeah, don' forget a dust mask.

JD

Ya the Plunge ride will be interesting with that group...allot of (25 people
signed up) mostly inexperienced riders. The good news is we are leaving 7am
and have allot of daylight. I am a very patient person and I like riding
with new riders, especially when they have never been on a ride like the
Plunge before. I remember the fear factor when I first rode trails with
exposure.

We plan on breaking off into 3-4 groups, some will go up to the peak because
it will be no problem catching up to the slow riders.

I have a water filter. The heat has me more concerned than anything 102
today getting hot tomorrow through the weekend.

Maybe I should have signed up for a rafting trip.

You mean like this? I just got done with this one. Fortunately, this is Mr.
Adventure's idea of fun.

I have to have a reason to head that way as I'd really not want it to be cuz
we're visiting my FIL......

I wouldn't have gotten kitchen clearance anyway since it was Father's day
weekend.

Hey Freak, I'll be in Colorado from 7/1 to 7/15. Would you like to get
together for some rides? Come on up!

Notice Matt and Craig haven't come forward to offer guide service....... but
then I haven't begged and pleaded yet :-)

Ride-A-Lot may possibly come over from Denver the weekend of the 8th. So
far I haven't come up with any rides. I was thinking of some of the rides
around Crested Butte but I'm unfamiliar with that area. Any suggestions
would be appreciated (email me).

That does look like fun. Looks cool, too.
