Default Hematoma treatment

Three weeks ago I crashed and, amongst other injuries, suffered a large
hematoma which initially contained an estimate of 3 units of blood(
presently measuring approx. 8cm. X 11cm. ) on my upper left leg.

Medical specialists have discouraged me from attempting to have it
"drained".

Does anyone know of treatment that might hasten its resolution?

Thanks
Mike

I had a very bad bruise and was told to alternate hot and cold. I put
ice on in for 20 minutes or so and then took a hot bath twice a day and
was amazed how fast it cleared up. Clearly your situation is worse and
I don't know if it would apply, but it is an idea anyway.

I've always found beer to be helpful in similar circumstances.

I will echo what others have said under similar circumstances: The advice
of medical specialists is preferable to news group advice.

Taken by mouth, or applied topically? If by mouth, be sure not to
discontinue treatment too early.

I am completely confused. It sounds like you received professional medial
care for your injury but instead of following up with them you are asking an
internet newsgroup for care suggestions. To me it make zero sense. If you
don't feel that it is healing correctly I think that you should go back to
your medical professional. If you need a different opinion, find another
medial professional.

For best results, replace warm beer with cold every 12 ounces.

No, his problem is that the medical advice is to just "wait, wait, wait" and
that's hard to do for someone who is active---so he is trying to find some
"folk wisdom" to speed up things. Problem is, there is no way to speed
anything up. I know; been there, done that. You just have to chill and wait
for it to resolve on its own.

You want sympathy or advice? Sympathy you can have, but advice you
already got :-)
