Default Vacation Spots?

After joking around with the better half about a much-needed vacation
and Los Barriles, we started seriously trying to plan our next
outing. While it wouldn't be fair of me to plan a bike-specific trip
(i.e. MOAB), I would like our next vacation to be somewhere I can
sneak away for an afternoon (and maybe an early morning or two) to hit
some strange riding. When not on the bike we'll be in the market for
beaches, swimming, kiteboarding, windsurfing, kayaking, and perhaps a
little hiking or diving.

So, the question: Does anyone have any nice vacation destinations to
recommend where the lovely lady can relax on the beach with an
umbrella-sporting drink while I tear myself up on some strange
singletrack and a half-decent rented bike, as well as having
watersports available from the same location?

TIA,

Dan

If a beach on a nice mountain lake is within your consideration, I'd
recommend either a) McCall Idaho, with Payette Lake, and lots of great
riding right there, or Stanley Idaho with Redfish Lake, with, again,
lots of great riding right there. Stanley areas is little more
dramatic, but more remote. McCall is less remote, more of a semi-
glitzy ski-town, but the rides out of each area are some of the best
you'll ever do.

Only as a spectator this year, no costume with feathers and we only
went to a couple of parties (called Fetes here). We should have made
more of an effort as it may be our last chance for a while, but we
know we'll be back (it is my wife's home country). My job is moving us
again and we may be heading back to the USofA, to HOUSTON.
Sheeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!
